@livmasonpearson: The hardest parts are dealing with people in difficult circumstances, such as breaking the news that the company is having to sack several people to stop the company going broke. I have had to tell the people being sacked and it is dreadfuly difficult.
However the most difficult technical part of the job has been to make a large superconducting magnet, which is difficult, but I had to make it under the observation of NASA as they were planning on launching it to the space station ion the shuttle as part of a scientific instrument. That made it doubly difficult! Regards Robin

The hardest part of my job is staying motivated when working on your own. Nobody checks what I do and nobody gives me any deadlines, so I have to be organised and motivated to get my work done so that at the end of my project I have done enough to pass.
Technically the hardest bit is learning a new computer language so that I can model my system.
