I have been doing my PhD for 18 months now so I’m about half way through. It has its ups and downs. I have to be very motivated to work hard because nobody is really checking what I am doing, and staying motivated with little feedback is difficult. But then I realise that I am completely in control of this project – nobody else will know what I have done as well as I do, which gives me a big sense of achievement when things go well. I also enjoy the flexibility of being able to work when I want to and plan my time the way that is best for me. And I’m researching something that I think is a great idea and very important to the world, so I feel strongly about finding ways to improve it so that one day in the future, solar refrigeration will be used everywhere!
